THE BEST CORPORATE SPORTS FACILITY ITC NEVER KNEW THEY HAD
Sometimes, the space already exists. It’s just being used for the wrong thing.
At ITC Limited’s Green Center campus in Banaswadi, Bengaluru, an underutilized car parking area was carrying far more potential than vehicles. With the right engineering approach, that same 10,000 sq ft footprint could become something their employees would actually look forward to using every day.
The Sports Habitat was commissioned to do exactly that — demolish the existing concrete surface, reconstruct the subbase from scratch, resolve a drainage system ill-equipped for monsoon conditions, reorganize exposed electrical infrastructure, and install a FIFA-approved multi-sport artificial turf facility. All of it executed under ITC’s stringent Environmental, Health, and Safety protocols, with zero incidents across the project timeline.
The result: a 5-a-side football and box cricket facility that now sits at the heart of ITC Green Center’s employee wellness ecosystem.

THE CHALLENGE
Converting a functioning car park into an international-standard sports facility is a civil engineering project that happens to end with a sports surface. The existing concrete was uneven, the drainage was inadequate for rain-heavy months, and live electrical infrastructure ran through the site without organized routing. Every one of those problems had to be fully resolved before any sports construction could begin.
KEY CONSTRAINTS
- Existing reinforced concrete parking surface required controlled demolition before any subbase work could commence
- Site drainage was insufficient for monsoon conditions, demanding complete redesign and installation of subsurface and channel drainage systems
- Exposed and disorganized electrical cables presented active safety hazards requiring coordination with ITC's internal electrical engineering team
- Strict ITC EHS protocols governed every phase of demolition, construction, and electrical works — zero-incident delivery was a baseline expectation, not a target
- 10,000 sq ft footprint had to accommodate both 5-a-side football and box cricket within a single optimized multi-sport layout
- 30-day delivery window demanded sequential precision across civil, drainage, electrical, and surfacing works
OUR SOLUTION
The project was sequenced as a complete site transformation. Controlled demolition cleared the concrete parking surface, followed by subbase leveling, stabilization, and the installation of a rubber cushion-backed shock absorption layer, giving the turf system a foundation engineered for both player comfort and long-term durability.
Drainage was redesigned from the ground up: high-efficiency channels, surface slope correction, and subsurface management systems working together to handle monsoon-level water volumes without pooling or facility downtime. Electrical infrastructure was safely relocated and reorganized in coordination with ITC’s engineering team, with multi-source power access points installed to support future lighting and event requirements.
The FIFA-approved artificial turf system — high-density polyethylene fibers over silica sand and rubber granule infill — was then installed across a multi-sport layout optimized for 5-a-side football and box cricket within the compact footprint. Every phase was executed under ITC’s EHS framework: controlled demolition procedures, full PPE compliance, hazard mitigation protocols, and documented safety supervision throughout.
What was a parking bay is now the most-used recreational space on the ITC Green Center campus, hosting daily employee football sessions, box cricket matches, and informal sports activity that feeds directly into ITC’s workplace wellness program.
