THE SOUTH SCHOOL
project Description
The South School in JP Nagar, Bengaluru, required the revamping of its existing concrete sports area into a safe, multi-sport, children-friendly surface to accommodate students from kindergarten to high school. The objective was to provide a high-quality, low-maintenance sports field suitable for various sports, with minimal upkeep. The 100ft by 66ft multi-sport field was transformed using FIFA-approved football turf, 50mm pile height, and a rubber cushion sub-base. This upgrade enabled the school to expand its sports curriculum to include four sports instead of the previous two, catering to the needs of young students aged 5-13.

CHALLENGES
The South School’s sports area faced several challenges, including an uneven concrete sub-base, limited space for multiple sports, and the need for a safe and low-maintenance surface for children aged 5-13.

Solution
The solutions involved correcting the sub-base with a rubber cushion-backed surface, optimizing the small area for four sports, selecting child-friendly turf, and ensuring minimal maintenance requirements.
- Concrete Subbase Correction: A rubber cushion-backed sub-base was used to correct the uneven concrete, providing a softer and more even surface for the turf installation.
- The design incorporated four sports into the available 100ft by 66ft area, offering flexibility.
- Safety-First Design: The multi-sport turf was selected for its suitability for children, providing a cushioned, abrasion-free surface that ensured safety during physical activities.
