Structural inspection and correction of engineered wooden subfloor system, Load-bearing joist framework reinforcement, Sub-millimeter precision surface leveling, Yonex BWF-approved professional badminton mat installation, Official BWF court geometry alignment, Precision line marking for competition standards
The Nandi Club at Indian Railways’ Senior Officers Quarters in Bengaluru had a badminton court that had served its players well until the wooden subfloor beneath it quietly deteriorated, taking gameplay performance with it. Surface irregularities had compromised player movement, shock absorption, and the consistency that competitive badminton demands.
A full structural replacement wasn’t the answer. What was needed was something more precise: a targeted rehabilitation of the existing wooden base, followed by the installation of a professional Yonex BWF-approved playing surface.
The Sports Habitat carried out a detailed structural evaluation, reinforced and corrected the wooden joist framework, and installed a competition-grade badminton mat system — restoring the court to international performance standards while preserving the existing infrastructure investment.

PROJECT TIMELINE
SCOPE
Rehabilitating an existing sports floor is technically more demanding than building from scratch. The structural diagnosis had to be exact, the corrections targeted, and the final surface had to meet the same international standards as a brand-new facility.
KEY CONSTRAINTS
Rather than defaulting to a full floor replacement, the team began with a forensic approach — a detailed structural inspection of the wooden joist framework to identify exactly where load distribution had weakened and surface deviations had developed. Targeted interventions followed: damaged planks were replaced, weakened subfloor segments reinforced, and the entire surface brought to the leveling precision that a professional badminton mat demands. With the base structurally sound, the Yonex BWF-approved mat system was installed with precision tension stabilization, ensuring a perfectly flat surface with no risk of displacement or wrinkling during high-speed play. Official court geometry was then mapped and marked to BWF competition dimensions, leaving the facility tournament-ready. The result delivered everything a full reconstruction would, at a fraction of the cost and timeline.
Government institutions across India operate thousands of sports facilities built over decades, most of which need rehabilitation, not reconstruction. The Nandi Club project is a case study in what targeted expertise can achieve: international playing standards restored efficiently, existing infrastructure preserved, and a facility returned to full competitive use without the cost or disruption of starting over. For public sector organizations, defense establishments, and PSUs managing aging sports infrastructure, this is the model worth following.
With over 2.2 million square feet of sports infrastructure delivered, The Sports Habitat partners with government agencies, educational institutions, and sports organizations across India to create future-ready sports facilities.
