A PUBLIC STADIUM FINALLY LIVES UP TO ITS NAME
Dattagalli Public Stadium had a postcode, a boundary wall, and not much else going for it. Underused and underequipped, it sat in the heart of Vivekananda Nagar without delivering the one thing a stadium exists to provide: a place to play.
Mysuru Urban Development Authority decided that wasn’t good enough.
The brief to The Sports Habitat was clear — two internationally certified sports surfaces, one compact stadium footprint, thirty days. The result is a FIFA-compliant football facility and an ITF-standard 8-layer acrylic tennis court that now anchors community sport in one of Mysuru’s most active residential neighbourhoods.

KEY CONSTRAINTS
- 12,000 sq ft footprint required careful spatial planning to fit both a football facility and a full tennis court without compromising either sport's playing geometry
- Public usage volumes are significantly higher than institutional environments, demanding surfaces specified for maximum wear resistance and longevity
- FIFA and ITF compliance standards had to be met concurrently within a single integrated stadium development
- Mysuru's regional climate required surface slope engineering, UV-resistant coatings, and drainage systems capable of handling monsoon conditions
- 30-day delivery timeline demanded flawless sequencing across civil, surfacing, and finishing works with no margin for rework
OUR SOLUTION
Spatial planning came first. The stadium precinct was mapped to ensure both the football facility and tennis court could sit within the available footprint with correct playing dimensions, safe perimeter zones, and efficient flow between facilities — neither surface sacrificed for the other.
The FIFA-compliant artificial turf system was laid over an engineered base with high-density polyethylene fibers, silica sand stabilization, and rubber granule infill, delivering the ball consistency, traction, and all-weather durability that community football demands. The ITF tennis court was built up through eight acrylic layers — from concrete base preparation through resurfacer, cushion coats, and texture finish — calibrated for a medium-paced surface suitable for both recreational players and competitive club-level matches. Across both surfaces, climate resilience was engineered in from the start: slope optimization directed water runoff efficiently, UV-resistant coatings protected color and surface integrity through sun and rain, and the material specifications ensured both courts could handle daily public use without premature wear.
Thirty days after mobilization, MUDA had a stadium that finally matched its civic purpose.
Dattagalli Public Stadium now operates as Mysuru’s most accessible multi-sport community facility — supporting local football training, recreational and competitive tennis, youth sports programs, and daily public fitness activity. For MUDA, this project demonstrates what thoughtful civic investment looks like in practice: a single, well-engineered development that returns value to the community every single day.
THE CHALLENGE
